About Me
Twenty years have passed since leaving Fiji to live in Australia and still I call Fiji my home. Despite travelling back and forth over the years, there is a constant desire for me to acknowledge valued aspects of my identity which are felt to be lost through emigration, submerged underneath the layers of self-reconstruction required in moving to Australia. I’ve always felt the need to use the knowledge and passion for design I have acquired through my years at University to somehow benefit my community back in Fiji. With the limited resources my family has in Fiji, it has always been a desire for me to create ideas that are a unique mixture of traditional and contemporary expression of my cultural heritage. My journey so far has taken me on a culturally sustainable path to which I aspire to contribute a meaningful sense of cultural diversity to the industry. Admittedly, my university years were a slow road in discovering where my passions lie in design. My honours year was a major turning point in my design career. I have acquired a Bachelor of Design (Interactive and Visual Design) Honours / Majoring in Advertising and always eager to learn new things. I was recently honoured to receive the QLD Visual Communication Design Graduate of the Year 2019 (GOTYA).
After graduating, and acquiring my first graduate design job in Brisbane, I decided to move back to Tasmania, where I grew up. I was in search of a slower lifestyle that would suit me and my needs. I started my own design business Club Coco where I had the freedom to create and design for projects I’m passionate about. COVID-19 has been challenging as a small business owner, and now as a new mother, I welcome new opportunities for me to advance my graphic design career whilst still being able to nurture my passions and needs for my family.
